Supporting AI Transformation and Skill Development in the Sport Sector with Strategic Foresight Approach
Background
The European sport sector is facing rapid and complex changes. Digitalisation is reshaping how sport is organised, consumed, and managed, while the green transition is pushing organisations to adopt more sustainable practices. At the same time, sport is increasingly recognised as a powerful tool for social inclusion, health promotion, and community development.
Despite this potential, there is a significant gap in anticipating the future skills needed by sports professionals, educators, and organisations. Current training and education systems often lack the foresight to adapt to these shifts, leaving many professionals underprepared for the challenges ahead.
The SF4Sport project was created to fill this gap. By combining labour market analysis, research, and collaboration across education and sport institutions, the project will identify the competences of tomorrow, design innovative learning pathways, and create long-term strategies for sustainable and inclusive growth in the European sport sector.
Objectives
Identify Future Skills Needs: Analyse labour market trends and anticipate key skills for the sports sector.
Develop Training Frameworks: Design innovative curricula, educational resources, and foresight tools to prepare sports professionals for emerging challenges.
Strengthen Collaboration: Foster cooperation between universities, sports organisations, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.
Promote Inclusion & Sustainability: Ensure that the future of sport is built on equal opportunities, green practices, and digital transformation .
Project Results
A comprehensive European foresight report on skills in sport.
Digital foresight tools to support policy and training providers.
New curricula and learning modules integrated into higher education and vocational training.
A European Skills Alliance linking stakeholders for long-term cooperation.
